The University of Mary Washington men’s lacrosse team is charging toward the 2013 season, and senior attackman Paul Tunick is leading the way.

With 19 goals and nine assists last season, Tunick, a computer science major, is one of the Eagles’ top returning point-scorers.

The Anandale, Va. native may currently have his sights set on a third straight season with double-digit wins, but Tunick took the time this week to tell the Bullet what his life is like off the lacrosse field.

People know Tunick as: “An entertainer,” Tunick said. “I always like to have a good time and make people laugh. I try to make the most out of any situation by keeping things interesting.”

Most prized possession: “I have two most prized possessions. One is a black Labrador Retriever named Rocky, and the other is a white Labrador Retriever named Apollo. They’re my two best friends.”

Biggest pet peeve: “When someone is on the road and gets into a fender bender with someone else and, rather than moving their cars off to the side of the road, they keep their cars in the lane, causing extreme traffic.”

Most embarrassing on-field moment: “My senior year [of high school] versus one of our cross-town rivals. In the winding seconds of the game, I had a one-on-one with the goalie…I missed the shot, and we ended up losing that game in double-overtime.”

Inspiration in life: “Eminem. I try to live my life like his—he has his own agenda and he doesn’t care what other people think. He knows he’s the best. Eminem’s not afraid and neither am I.”

Favorite place to eat on campus: “Living on Rowe Street, I’ve learned to love Seacobeck. I love the people at Seaco: Theresa, Mama Jean and Amber. They’re all cool, and the food is good, sometimes.”

Best teacher at UMW: “Jim Groom. He was very enthusiastic, and no matter how awful my project was, he was always able to find the silver lining and tell me how good it was. He’s just a really nice, interesting and creative guy.”

Where Tunick sees himself in 10 years: “A manager of some sort of team working on a project, a technological project that could change the world. I got into computer science because it’s an ever-changing industry, and I don’t want to be left behind.”

Favorite time-killing activity: “Playing ‘Call of Duty’ and also stealing oranges from Seaco to throw on top of my house.”

One thing most people don’t know about Tunick: “I’ve only read four books in my life: Harry Potter one through four. I didn’t finish the series because the books started to get too long.”

Favorite moment from the 2012 season: “Against McDaniel, on a cold March day, our game went into triple overtime. I scored the game-winning goal in the third overtime period, and I got the dog pile on top of me. That was one of my greatest sports moments of my life.”

Goal for the 2013 season: “To make it to the Capital Athletic Conference finals and, for me personally, to be an All-CAC selection.”
