Dave Toth, associate professor in the college of business, worked with students Zach Goodywyn and Jerome Mueller to write a paper about the research they conducted this year during the UMW Summer Science Program. They compared the performance of an Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor and a NVIDIA K20c Graphic Processing Unit (GPU). Toth presented the work last week in Austria at the Parallel and Distributed Computing and Networks Conference.

Xiaofeng Zhao,
associate professor in the college of business, wrote an article, “Nonlinear Programming,” which will be published by the Encyclopedia of Business Analytics and Optimization (EBAO). The article will be published by IGI Global in 2014. Another one of Zhao’s articles, “Linear Programming,” will also be published in the EBAO.

Paul Fallon,
associate professor of linguistics, presented the paper “The Lexicostatistics of Central Cushitic (Agaw)” at the 42nd annual meeting of the North American Conference on Afroasiatic Linguistics (NACAL), held at the University of Leiden, in the Netherlands, on Feb. 14 to16, 2014.
