As 2017 comes to an end, it is important to reflect on all that has occured this year. Like always, the year has had its high points and its low points- but when compared to prior years, 2017 has arguably dealt with its fair share of controversial issues.
From political turmoil, to mass shootings, to sexual assault cases; it is clear that there is a lot that is going on in the world. While these issues have always existed, a surplus of them have happened throughout the course of 2017.
These events have taken place throughout the world; some have been close to Fredericksburg like the Charlottesville rally, while others have been more spread out across the United States, and then there are tragic situations taking place in other countries as well. It is clear that various populations of citizens have been impacted by the many tragedies that have gone on in 2017.
As a result of all that has happened, it is understandable that many people may be feeling anger and sadness for different reasons. In light of everything though, it is more important than ever to build relationships with one another and find a way to come together and make a positive impact on the world.
As we head into winter break, the Blue & Gray Press encourages everyone to be open and respectful of others’ opinions. Both at Mary Washington and wherever you go, it is important to not let all the events that have taken place push us apart from each other. It is vital to come together as a community and stand up for one another.
