Police Beat–April 6 to 12

April 6- Residence Life staff told UMW police that they had confiscated a homemade bong from a student resident at West Village. Police put the bong in the evidence room. Residence Life referred the student to the administration.

April 9- A UMW student reported that his bike was stolen. The bike was located in the abandoned bicycle log and the student went to the holding area to retrieve his bike.

April 9- UMW police found a “marijuana smoking device” next to the dumpster at the University Apartments. Since no one was in the area at the time, police did not take any further action. Police put the device in the evidence room.

April 9- Police gave a motorist a warning for passing on the double yellow line on College Avenue near Combs Hall.

April 9- Police arrested a UMW student for intentionally discharging fire extinguishers.
April 10- Police took a report of damage to state property at the Battleground Athletic Complex. A vehicle had backed up, causing the damage.

April 10- UMW police arrested a student for being drunk in public.

April 11- UMW police warned a student for reckless driving in the UMW Parking Deck.

April 11- UMW police warned two people who were performing bike tricks off of the flower beds and planters on Campus Walk near Lee Hall. Police told the people to stop so that they would not hurt themselves or damage UMW property.

April 11- During a routine patrol of the area around the Amphitheatre, UMW police found a “marijuana smoking device.” Since no one was in the area at the time, police did not take any further action. Police put the device in the evidence room.

April 11- A UMW student filed a noise complaint about a group of 20 or 30 people in front of the University Apartments, Building 7. When police responded, they found that a party had just broken up and that the partygoers happened to be leaving.

April 11- UMW police responded to an emergency call from the blue light phone at the intersection of College Avenue and William Street. Police received the call at 1:41 a.m. and were on the scene at 1:43 a.m. When they arrived, no one was at the phone. Police inspected the surrounding area but did not find anyone in distress or in need of assistance.

April 11- Police responded to an emergency call from the blue light phone at College Avenue near duPont Hall. Police received the call at 1:56 a.m. and were on the scene at 1:58 a.m. When they arrived, no was at the phone, but they noticed a male and female in front of Seacobeck Hall. Police spoke with both people and although they said they had seen the blue light blinking, they had not seen whoever made the call. Police inspected the surrounding area but did not find anyone in distress of in need of assistance.

April 11- UMW police responded to a request for assistance from the Fredericksburg police at Heritage Auto Sales on Jefferson Davis Highway. The Fredericksburg police had found a UMW student attempting to get into vehicles on the lot by trying door handles. UMW police escorted the student back to campus. She told police that her sorority sisters had dropped her off at the car lot as a joke. She could not explain why she had been trying to get into the vehicles. Police referred her to the Residence Life professional who was on-call.

April 12- UMW police took a report for damage to state property. Someone had torn away a telephone from the wall in Goolrick Hall. Police recovered the phone.
