Suspect Found in Grocery Store Purse Snatching

A suspect has been found and arrested in connection with the Giant grocery store purse snatching that occurred last Saturday, Sept. 25, officials said Friday morning.
The suspect vehicle was located at an apartment complex in Arlington by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department daily crime report sent out by Police Spokesperson Natatia Bledsoe.
David Lyons, 50, of Arlington answered the door and surrendered to officials without incident, according to Bledsoe.
Bledsoe said Lyons has been charged with one count of felony robbery and is currently incarcerated.
The robbery took place early Saturday afternoon, as mother of a UMW senior visiting for Family Weekend was attacked while entering Giant, the store in Eagle Village. The suspect fled the scene with the victim’s purse.
A Giant employee who witnessed the attack was able to follow the suspect out to the parking lot and give a description of the vehicle and its license plate number to the Fredericksburg police.
There is no evidence connecting Lyons to any other crimes in Fredericksburg, according to Bledsoe.
