2 min readIn a few hours, the greater Fredericksburg area will probably be struggling to keep power as Hurricane Irene hits. So, load up your iPods now will these sure-fire ways to embrace the end of the world with the second natural disaster of the week.
1. “Till the World Ends” by Britney Spears

2. “It’s the End of the World as We Know It” by R.E.M.
Yeah yeah yeah…this one is kind of a given. But, as long as there are talks of an impending apocalypse, this song will be cemented in American culture. Also, it’s one of those songs in which complete strangers can totally describe all of your emotions…I mean, come one, “that’s great, it starts with an earthquake”?!

3. “Hurricane Drunk” by Florence + the Machine
The first thing my roommate and I did when we lost power was buy beer. And really, when you can’t update your Facebook, Twitter, or blog, what else is there to do?

4. “The Last Day We Ever Close Our Eyes” by Dan Andriano in the Emergency Room
I’m an optimist, really.

5. “Rock You Like a Hurricane” by the Scorpions
I almost didn’t put this on the list because it was in an Applebee’s commercial once. I’m not a spiteful former employee though, so I left it on.

6. “Ridin’ the Storm Out” by REO Speedwagon

7. “No Fun” by Brave Irene
Yesterday, I realized precisely how un-fun power outages are. My phone and Macbook died, you can’t watch TV, and all my friends were at work. Sooo…I took a nap. Womp womp. Bonus points because it’s by someone named Irene?
There’s no video, so listen here.
8. “POWER” by Kanye West
Because you’re about to lose it.
