Gallery Exhibitions. Two new exhibits will be hosted at the University of Mary Washington Galleries from Sept. 5 to Oct. 6. “Converging Cultures: Works by Latino Artists,” on display at the Ridderhof Martin Gallery features work of over 15 Latino artists from across the U.S. “UMW Faculty Exhibition,” on display at the duPont Gallery, displays work by UMW full-time studio faculty. Artists featured include Joseph DiBella, professor of painting and drawing, Carole Garmon, professor of sculpture, Rosemary Jesionowski, associate professor of multiple imaging, and Jon McMillan, assistant professor of ceramics. The galleries are free and will each hold an opening reception on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 5-7 p.m.

Lecture. Gari Melcher’s Home and Studio at Belmont will host frame conservator Sandy Jensen on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. Jensen, an expert in frame restoration, will discuss the painting “Brabant Bride,” on display at the museum. Topics discussed will include restoration techniques and the artist’s decision in choosing frames. The museum is open daily and charges for admission.

Lecture. Cynthia Cooper will be the keynote speaker at this year’s 20th annual Leadership Colloquium. Cooper is the bestselling author of “Extraordinary Circumstances: The Journey of a Corporate Whistleblower,” which chronicled her story of revealing the corporate fraud of WorldCom in 2002. Cooper, now CEO of the management consulting firm CooperGroup, LLC, will speak on colloquium’s theme, “real women, real issues, real solutions.” The event will take place at Stafford campus on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The early registration fee is $179 until Oct. 4 when the price raises to $199.
