People of UMW: scarf yourselves

Sweater weather descended upon Fredericksburg this month, and with it comes the scarf boom.

I love scarves; they are cozy and an easy way to spice up your typical liberal arts, all black ensemble.

There is a large variety of scarf types to choose from. You have your knit scarves, snoods, silk scarves, square scarves, rectangle scarves, ironically skinny scarves, it-was-my-mom’s-in-the-80s scarves and the college girl go-to infinity scarf. My own scarf collection exceeds 15 scarves of different shapes, sizes and patterns; my favorite being a black and white striped Unisex Circle Scarf from American Apparel. They are $28 dollars and worth every penny.

Versatility is the best thing about scarves. I have yet to see anyone look bad in a scarf, especially when paired with a neutral wool pea coat or Barbour jacket.

This includes you, male population of UMW. Don’t act like you weren’t impressed by the latest Bond incarnation’s outerwear in “Skyfall.” You too can own that coat, and you too can wear a scarf. Just because you are masculine doesn’t mean your neck should be cold.

“I love scarves,” said senior rugby captain and business major Ben Britten. Concise and to the point; I concur.

Senior economics and environmental science double major Becky Conway agreed.

“I have an excessive amount…they take up a whole drawer in my closet. I might have a scarf addiction,” Conway said.

We’re all addicted, Becky. Don’t be a fool, and wrap up in everyone’s favorite chill fighting accessory. Take Campus Walk from drab to fab and scarf up; there is no excuse not to.
