UMW will honor Thomas Jefferson’s Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom with a lecture by Amina Wadud, professor emerita at Virginia Commonwealth University. The lecture, “Whose Freedom? Islam, Gender and the Politics of Representation,” will take place on Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Dodd Auditorium. The lecture is free to the public.

Religious Freedom Lecture

Public Lecture by Michael Signer

“The Search for Statesmen: The Quest for Leadership in James Madison’s Democracy,” will be held on Monday Feb. 3. The lecture is free to the public and will be presented by Signer, a visiting full professor at the school of public and international affairs at Virginia Tech.

Historic Preservation Rap Video

Historic Preservation students used a rap video to show their knowledge of the National Register of Historic Places. The video was a final project for assistant professor Andrea Smith’s Historic Preservation 405 Survey and Preservation Planning class this past fall. The video is on YouTube and has more than 6,000 views.
