Honor council and Giant team up for spring concerts

What is the best way to relax before the rush of finals? Everyone has a different theory, but for the past two weeks, the University of Mary Washington Honor Council and Giant Productions created an environment to help with the process.

On April 10, the folk group Humming House performed on Ball circle, and Logan Mize performed on April 17.

Humming House, an indie-folk band, was an interesting contrast to Logan Mize’s country music, but both events were packed with students enjoying great music, nice weather and good food.

The honor council and Giant Productions came together to remind students of the honor code at UMW, and while exams can be stressful, we all still need to uphold our pledge of honor.

“Exams are under way, and we want to remind students of the honor code on campus.  Collaborating with Giant Productions is a great way to do this,” said Alice O’Brien, honor council president.

As the year comes to a close, class, and life in general, can become more stressful.  Many students are taking in the last bit of freedom they have before it is time to hunker down and start studying.

“The semester is starting to get stressful and because we love what honor council stands for, we wanted to team up with them to give students a way to enjoy themselves before finals,” said Jenna Randall, a junior in Giant Productions.

“The fact that Giant was awesome enough to get great bands to come play for the students for free during the last stretch of school is stellar,” said sophomore biology major Margot Jelinek.

“It really brings us all together as a university so easily,” Jelinek said after the Humming House concert.

It was apparent by the amount of people on Ball Circle that students enjoyed the event and were taking advantage of the free concerts and food.

“There is nothing I love more than being on Ball [circle], especially when there’s music and lots of people,” said sophomore political science major Ciara Peacock.

“It offers a sense of community and definitely helps me de-stress and takes my mind to other things,” Peacock said.
