Lady Eagles continue to dominate early in the season

On Wednesday Feb. 21, the UMW women’s lacrosse team faced off against Shenandoah Hornets. The UMW Eagles, who rank seventeenth in the nation for Women’s Lacrosse, would prove why they sit in such a high rank.
The scoring began 27 minutes into the game, with the Eagles taking the lead thanks to junior Paige Haskins and fellow classmate Mackenzie Maguire working together to score. Another score would follow three minutes later by Maguire, with Savannah Boyd following up with another one minute later. With 22 minutes left in the first half, the UMW lead would grow to 4–0 as Hope Lockwood scored off an assist by Kristen Kunaniec. The Shenandoah Hornets would score a point, only halting the Eagles momentum for a short while. The Eagles would respond with a score at 9:29, showing their dominance once again in the first half. The Eagles would go on to score 6 more times in the first half, Allison Davis would score one of her five goals in this time. The final score of the first half was 10–1 with the Eagles at a comfortable lead.
The second half of the game would be a startling and rough wakeup call for the Eagles. The Shenandoah Hornets would score the first two goals of the half, closing in on the lead the Eagles were beginning to lose. However, the Eagles would clap back with 4 consecutive scorings. The Shenandoah Hornets would come in fast with two consecutive goals, drawing within nine points of the Eagles’ lead. The Eagles would again retaliate with three consecutive scorings, ending the game with a score of 18–6.
The Eagles would go down Saturday Feb. 24 to face off against Lynchburg. The Eagles would go in with the confidence needed to score another win.
The Lynchburg Hornets scored first, 1:44 minutes into the first half. The Eagles responded fiercely with four consecutive scorings, with Paige Haskins delivering two of them herself. The Hornets would score again with 14:33 setting the score 4–2. The Eagles would score again with 13:08 left on the clock thanks to Paige Haskins. The Eagles would add two more points over the next minute, one form Savannah Boyd and another from Paige Haskins. The First half would finish with a score of 8–2 in favor of the Eagles.
The second half would start out with a score from Julia Albert. Lynchburg would then begin a scoring streak, cutting the lead held by UMW by three. With 13 minutes remaining, the Eagles would lead with a score of 13–6. Freshman Micaela Quinn would score two goals, increasing the score 16–6. Over the final 7:25, Lynchburg would score three more goals consecutively. This would not be enough, with the final score of the game being 18–9 in favor of the UMW Eagles.
