The Green Boys Make Their Campus Debut at the Underground

The Green Boys are set to perform at the Underground this Friday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. This marks the first on-campus performance for the Americana-influenced folk musicians, who have played all around downtown Fredericksburg, including the Loft, Sammy T’s, Market Square and University Café, where they just performed last weekend.
Comprised of brothers Ryan Green (upright bass and vocals) and UMW senior Sean Green (guitar and vocals), Michael Emmons (dobro, banjo and vocals) and Jonathan Burkett (percussion and drums), The Green Boys began as a three-piece and increased to four members last September
with the addition of Burkett.
Member and UMW student Sean Green says students can expect to hear a lot of original material, mostly written by him and his brother, with a few unexpected covers.
“We like to bring songs from different genres and apply them to our kind of music,” he says about the band, and also noting that they’ve been known to sometimes play Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.”
The Green Boys, who are planning on recording soon, cite the Avett Brothers, Bob Dylan and Neil Young as some of their influences. Green says the band is very excited about the band’s first Underground performance and hopes that students will “get acquainted with the downtown music scene. There are some really good bands, many which include UMW students.”
