Upcoming Summer Movies to Watch For

Every summer, Hollywood puts out their biggest money makers. They usually not aimed at winning Academy Awards, or making you think especially hard, but their sure to be chock full of impressive effects, action and great one-liners. Make sure to check out the following Hollywood blockbusters coming out this summer.

“A Nightmare on Elm Street,” April 30

Although not technically a “summer” movie as it is coming out in late April, this is nonetheless one of the most anticipated films dropping in 2010. The main reason for this is many of the die-hard horror fans and fans of the classic A Nightmare on Elm Street are eager to see just how Michael Bay can produce a refreshing twist on this timeless horror staple. Starring Jackie Earle Haley as Freddie Krueger and Rooney Mara as Nancy Thompson, this remake is sure to provide a balanced mix of horror and Michael Bay special effects.

“Robin Hood,” May 14

By many accounts the blockbuster of this coming summer, Robin Hood brings together the always entertaining and jaw-dropping tandem of director Ridley Scott and powerhouse actor Russell Crowe. You may remember these two teaming up for the now classic Ancient Roman epic Gladiator as well as the more recent crime drama American Gangster. In a cinematic recount of the tale of Robin Hood, this film certainly fulfills the qualification for the historical epic so many of us have been waiting years for. If you only see one film this summer, make this be the one.

“Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,” May 28

This is an upcoming action-adventure-fantasy film directed by Mike Newell, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Sir Ben Kingsley. A film adaptation of the popular video game series, this film should be riddled with special effects and action sequences. A must see for fans of the video game series.

“The A-Team,” June 11

An upcoming adaptation of the classic television show, director Joe Carnahan teams up with producers Ridley and Tony Scott to bring you this high-octane action-adventure movie. Starring Liam Neeson, Jessica Biel and Bradley Cooper, the story is about a group of soldiers who, after being arrested for a crime they did not commit, become mercenaries.

“Inception,” July 16

This is another of what should be a very worthwhile cinematic experience. Directed by Christopher Nolan and featuring an ensemble cast a few of whom are Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Paige, and Michael Cain. The plot centers around an agent (DiCaprio) who has found a way to drug various people, enter their minds through their dreams, and sell their secrets on the black market. What is sure to be a riveting psychological adventure tale, a must see for anyone interested.

“Salt,” July 23

Another action thriller for the summer months, this film’s plot center’s around CIA officer Evelyn Salt, who goes on the run to try and clear her name after being accused of being a double-agent for the KGB. Starring Angelina Jolie, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Live Schreiber and directed by Phillip Noyce.

“The Expendables,” August 22

The quintessential summer action blockbuster, this film brings an ensemble cast of both new and old school action greats. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, and Sylvester Stallone, the plot centers around a group of mercenaries who get caught up in a double cross while on a highly sensitive mission in South America. Directed by Sylvester Stallone this film is sure to be one of the most action-packed films of all of the upcoming summer action movies. An action epic to end all action epics, this is a definite must see for all those into the action genre.
