Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' is Definitely a Good One

If you love the flirty pop songs on the radio, “Teenage Dream” is without a doubt the album for you.

Katy Perry, the totally retro pop singer, just released her second album this August, called “Teenage Dream,” and for those of you who thoroughly enjoy sugary-sweet girly type songs, this is right up your alley. If not, it’s not going to interest you.

Many of her songs contain very catchy choruses, like in “California Gurls.” Her memorable choruses will be stuck in your head for weeks because of their amusing lyrics. They’re fun both to listen to and sing along with, making it a successful album in my eyes.

“California Gurls” features a guest artist, the one and only, Snoop Dogg. It was a good choice for Perry to have him feature in her song because it ultimately added to the song in a positive way. Adding Snoop Dogg to the mix incorporated another genre of music, rap, into “California Gurls,” which gave the song more variety. Despite their completely difference voices, having a rapper and a pop artist in the same song made it very appealing. Their voices complemented each other very well.

“Teenage Dream” and “Peacock,” two other songs on the album, could prove to be a little problematic though. Katy Perry’s average listener is pretty young, so these songs, with decidedly promiscuous, risqué lyrics, might be a little inappropriate. Most of her songs contain suggestive lines such as “Let’s go all the way tonight” or “Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock,” which obviously are sexual references.

But Perry is, after all, currently in love with her soon-to-be husband, Russell Brand, who tends to be a little raunchy, so it would be difficult to ask her to suppress her feelings in her music.

One thing that Perry could work on that would make her albums even better would be to incorporate different kinds of songs. All of her songs seem to be the up-beat, cheerful songs, but as we all know, not everything in life is peachy-keen. Perry should add more thought-provoking songs to mix things up a bit and give her fans something new and different to listen to.

Something that cannot be denied is that Perry has quite the pipes. She has an unbelievable voice and obviously picked the right career for herself. She has a very unique voice and when you hear one of her songs, you know right away who is singing. Whether she is singing “E.T.” or “Hummingbird Heartbeat,” she owns the part.

She has definitely become a very popular icon among many despite her very recent arrival into pop music. She is just beginning in her career and I’m sure that she is going to make many more enjoyable albums.

In my opinion, “Teenage Dream” is a successful album, filled with catchy, quality songs. But, where it really shines is in how Perry’s quirky self comes through in every song she sings.
