Reference and humanities librarian, recently had his study, “Baseball’s First Bill Veeck,” published in the fall 2013 edition of The Baseball Research Journal. His article served as the lead story of the issue and is a biographical story on former Chicago Cubs president William L. Veeck Sr., who was president of the team from 1919 until his death in 1933. Veeck helped to orchestrate two National League pennants in 1929 and 1932.
Mark Snyder,
Assistant professor of music, performed his multimedia work, “Qwee”, at the Electronic Music Midwest Festival in Kansas City, Miss. on Oct 25. The composition featured harp, accordion and electronics and was presented with the help of UMW student Becky Brown, who played the harp. The EMM is a festival that attracts many types of electroacoustic artists from various disciplines.
Gary Richards,
Associate professor of English, recently participated in a discussion panel consisting of contributors of The Cambridge Companion to the Literature of the American South at the Louisiana Book Festival. The conference was held in Baton Rouge, La. on Nov 2. Richards also led a discussion on Shirley Anne Grau’s 1961 novel, “The House of Coliseum Street.”
